“In Indonesia, higher education is still facing several challenges, such as unequal access between regions, limited collaboration with industries, and a gap between graduates’ skills and the demands of the global job market. Many universities are also in the process of digital transformation, but the readiness and quality still vary. Given these conditions, what do you think are the main challenges for universities in developing countries like Indonesia in preparing graduates for the global job market? And how might these challenges be effectively addressed?”
The question above was delivered by Putri Ihda Inayah a student of the MMPT during a panel session on Navigating the Future Through Higher Education, a panel organized by MMPT departement, the graduate school, Universitas Gadjah Mada in the IGSSCI conference. In response, a comprehensive response from the panelists: Prof. Dr. Talip Küçükcan, Prof. Puji Astuti and Prof. Jian-Bang Deng highlighted key issues such as the need for adaptive curricula, stronger university–industry collaboration, improved equity in educational access, and a more coherent approach to digital transformation are keys for development. The speakers also emphasized the importance of equipping graduates with relevant future skills to enhance their competitiveness in the global workforce.
The participation of the graduate students in this international forum reflects the program’s commitment to fostering global academic engagement, critical inquiry, and active contribution to discussions on the future of higher education.
