Yogyakarta, Indonesia -November 5, 2025— The Turkish Ambassador to Indonesia, Prof. Talip Küçükkcan, paid a courtesy visit to Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) at Balairung UGM, to discuss strengthening academic and cultural cooperation between Turkey and Indonesia.

“Currently, more than 5,500 Indonesian students are pursuing undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in Turkey — a number that reflects the growing educational ties between the two nations. This shows great potential to extend and deepen collaboration between Turkey and Indonesia,” said Prof. Küçükkcan, who previously served as a Professor of Sociology at Marmara University, Istanbul, before his appointment as Ambassador.

Prof. Küçükkcan emphasized the importance of academic cooperation and commended the existing partnerships between UGM and Turkish universities, particularly in the Faculties of Psychology and Veterinary Medicine. Both the Turkish Embassy and UGM expressed their commitment to further strengthening collaboration across the three pillars of higher education — education, research, and community service.

The Ambassador also highlighted that starting in 2025, Indonesian citizens are no longer required to apply for a visa for short stays in Turkey, a development that will greatly facilitate academic exchange and people-to-people connections.

During the meeting, discussions also focused on expanding academic collaboration, student and faculty exchange programs, and joint research initiatives between UGM and leading Turkish universities.

In addition, Prof. Küçükkcan conveyed Turkey’s plan to further enhance bilateral cooperation with Indonesia through the establishment of a Turkish Corner at UGM — an initiative aimed at promoting Turkish language, culture, and education in Yogyakarta, Indonesia’s cultural and educational hub.

The visit underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing mutual understanding and academic excellence between Turkey and Indonesia. Prof. Küçükkcan was welcomed by UGM’s secretary Dr. Andi Sandi Antonius Tabusassa Tonralipu, S.H., LL.M, the Director of Partnerships and Global Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Puji Astuti, several deans and vice deans from different faculties both from social and natural sciences.
